Three Love Poems ANYONE Can Write

Couples are always on the lookout for new and fun ways to express their love for their partner. One creative outlet is through poetry. In fact, in frequent polls at Lovingyou.com, a love poem is often cited as the number one gift a person would like to receive from their partner. To many this could be considered an arduous challenge. The good news is it doesn't have to be. With a few tools and little bit of creativity you can be on your way to wooing your partner's heart through their poetic heartstrings.

One of the easiest and quickest ways to write a poem is using a format called an acrostic. An acrostic poem is where every line starts with a letter of a word that is displayed vertically. For example:

In case you were in doubt that my

Love is not true, remember this
Only you can make me feel
Vulnerably, completely and
Entirely in love with

You
Only and always
Unconditionally you

Note that if you look at the first letter of each line, you will see "I love you" written vertically. This is an especially fun format when you use your names. For example, Jason Loves Julie, or My Love Teresa. You do not need to write sentences like in the example above. A simple word for each line is more than appropriate. To help, in the process, listed below are a few adjectives for each letter of the alphabet.

Another fun and easy poetry format is a cinquain poem. Cinqains have five lines. Each line must contain a certain element. Here is the standard format.
Line 1: Title (noun) - 1 word
Line 2: Description - 2 words
Line 3: Action - 3 words
Line 4: Feeling (phrase) - 4 words
Line 5: Title (synonym for the title) - 1 word

An example cinqain:

Lover
Exquisite, divine
Need to touch
Wishing you were here
You

Cinqains are great when sent as a quick loving note in an email, at the end of a letter or hidden in a special place for your partner to find.

The last of our three poems is a personal favorite. There are so many ways to present this poem that every one you make will always feel individual and personal to your partner. What could this fun format be? A rebus love poem of course! You probably already know that a rebus is a message made out of pictures. When you create a rebus love poem, you make it mostly out of pictures. You can choose to draw images, use stickers or find free clip art online. You are only limited by your imagination. In fact, one creative way to write a rebus love poem is with miniature (or full size for a BIG impression) candy bars. Here is an example rebus poem.

Write Your Love Story

Write Your Love StoryEveryone has a story to tell. In fact, most people delight in sharing the little things that happen to them daily. But, when it comes to undertaking something such as actually writing their own love story, most people balk at the idea. So imagine the surprise your partner will feel when you've taken the time to record the very significant part of your lives on paper. For ideas and tips, read on…

Where To Start

First compile all relevant information such as:

  1. Where and when you met.

  2. Where and when you first kissed.

  3. Where and when you proposed.

  4. Where and when you were married.

  5. The first time you knew you were in love.

  6. Where and when you shared these feelings with your partner.

  7. Where and when you had your first date.

  8. How you felt when you were on your first date.

Next, you'll need to sort the information chronologically, from the first event.

It's much easier to put the story together when you write about each event/memory on an index card. For quick reference, highlight what the event/memory was, and the date it happened on the top. Then, in as much detail as memory allows, write about what happened, including all your senses such as touch, sight, smell, etc.

Once you have all the events/memories written, and in order. Start writing your love story. It will be a fairly easy job if you've done the steps above.

Creative Ideas For Your Story

It's one thing to sit down and write your love story, it's quite another to take the time to put creative effort into it. Some ideas couples have done range from video taping the story with pictures, to creating their own professionally bound book with pictures. The possibilities are truly endless. To help you get started, here are a few ideas:

  1. Tell the story in a fairy-tale format. Starting with, "Once upon a time…"

  2. Create a puppet show with puppets to represent each of your characters. Save a copy of the play for your partner to read later.

  3. Write your story in diary format. Get a blank journal and create entries for each of the days that are relevant for your love story.

  4. Make a timeless treasure by writing your story in calligraphy on a heavy paper. Dip the pages in tea or burn the edges to give it an "old" look. Roll it up and tie a ribbon around it. You may want to give your partner a round tube so the letter doesn't get ruined.

  5. Create a love story scavenger hunt. Write parts of your story with clues to find the next section. This is especially fun if the clues are hidden in places relevant to your love story!

Creative Flower Giving Ideas

Creative Flower Giving Ideas

There are many occasions where giving your partner flowers is the perfect mode of expression. Sometimes though, the regular bouquet seems a like a cookie cutter romantic idea. To help break the mold try one of these reader's creative ideas for giving flowers!

Cookie Bouquet
My significant other loves chocolate chip cookies, so I sent him a bouquet made of chocolate chip cookies instead of flowers (the florist was so creative!). They were delivered to his office mid-morning of his birthday, so that he could enjoy them throughout the day!
--submitted by Deborah

This Bud's for You
My boyfriend gave me a Budweiser bottle that had a white rose in it for Valentine's Day. It had a card that said "This Bud's for you!" It was really cute.
--submitted by Krystal

Special Delivery
I had just moved into a new apartment and my girlfriend was over for the weekend. I left, telling her I'd forgotten a shirt at my old apartment. I got the shirt, but I also stopped and ordered her roses. I had them delivered to my new place later that day while we were just chilling for the day. When the door rang I made her go answer it. The look on her face when she came back, roses in hand was priceless.
--submitted by Esley

Pop-Up Flowers
I went to a magic shop and bought some of those paper flowers that magicians pull out of their sleeves. I sent them in a letter, so when the (cardboard) envelope was opened, VOILA - flowers.
--submitted by Kate

Congratulations Bouquet
I was competing for a manager's job against this woman who hated me and who really wanted this job as well. When they named me for the position, my husband sent me a dozen roses. On the card he had written: "To the best woman in the world. I knew you had it in the bag." He didn't sign it though, so everyone at work was going crazy wondering where those flowers came from, including that nasty other girl! It was an awesome day!!!
--submitted by Margie

Bed of Roses
I came home from work one time to find my door open and candles burning everywhere. Sarah McLaughlin's song Angel was playing on my stereo and there was a trail of rose petals leading into my bedroom. When I opened my bedroom door, rose petals were formed into a heart shape on my bed. In the middle of the heart were a dozen long stem beautiful roses with a card. This was all "just because."
--submitted by Nina

Thinking of You
Every once in a while, when I go to my car, there will be a single red rose lying on a windshield wiper from my boyfriend.
--submitted by Emily

Hidden Roses
Valentine's Day had fallen on the day I normally do laundry. To my surprise, my husband had hid a dozen roses in the washing machine for me and in the dryer were my favorite chocolates. I about cried when I went to do a load of wash and there they were. I thought he'd forgotten about Valentine's Day!!

Pillowcase Messages

If you're apart from your significant other for any length of time, you start searching for ways to keep the memory of your relationship foremost in your partner's mind. What better way than on a custom pillowcase? Each night, they'll be reminded of you and your affection. There are many ways to create a custom pillowcase…and they are ALL extremely easy.

To get started you will need at least some of the items below, depending on how you decide to customize your pillowcase.

Pillowcase Messages
  • fabric paint
  • fabric paint pens
  • fabric spray paint
  • stencils
  • stamps
  • iron-on transfer printer paper
  • cardboard piece that can fit inside the pillowcase

If you want to transfer a picture of yourself, or maybe of you both together, you will need to follow the directions given with the iron-on transfer paper. Remember, typically you will need to wash any item before transferring to it. This is also true for fabric paint.

IDEAS FOR COMPLETION:

When you have your tools ready, and your picture transferred, slip the pillowcase over the cardboard piece to avoid having the fabric paint show through on the back of the pillowcase.

You can use the stamps to stamp heart or kiss images along the side of the pillowcase or around your picture.

Use the spray paint with the stencils to create a more even coloring.

Write little love messages or quotes with a fabric marker pen. You can have your picture on one side, and the love messages on the other. One idea is to include the words "I love you" in various languages.

Remember, you are only limited by your imagination!

Give The Gift Of Time

How much time have you spent with your partner lately? Not sitting on the sofa watching TV or over dinner, but real one-on-one time. It's amazing how much a little "private" time can help improve even the best of relationships. In the spirit of the quote by Torquato Tasso, "Any time not spent on love is wasted," I implore you to give your partner the most precious gifts of all... your time. Just in case ideas seem to be lacking on how to give your time, I've come up with a few suggestions:

First, make it easier to spend a few minutes here and there talking by taking advantage of everyday actions. The perfect opportunity maybe in taking a few minutes before getting out of the car to go somewhere. Lean over and kiss your partner and tell them you love them. Then, ask how their day was or how they're doing. Call your partner up every so often, even if you live together, and just talk for a few minutes like old friends. Before you go to bed is also a great time to spend together. Talk about your goals and dreams and snuggle together.

Every once in awhile, take the day off or call in sick and just hang out together. Or, if you have kids, hire a nanny for the day or enlist a friend or family member to watch them, and go for a walk or have a picnic. Try to keep to activities that promote talking, unlike movies or concerts, etc.

Another fun way to promote one-on-one time is to find a hobby you can both do together, like gardening, doing puzzles, working with miniature trains, cooking, playing music, hobby cars, watercolors, photography, etc. A past love and I, for a short time, found a great way to work together by doing woodcrafts. I designed the craft, he cut them out and we painted them together. For Christmas we had a fabulous collection of keepsakes that not only we admired (and had a blast creating) but so did our friends and family. With a little creativity and joint effort you can find the perfect hobby for you both.

When was the last time you both went out on a date? If it's been awhile, institute a date night. Ask your love out to a specific place, with a specific time to be ready. If you date quite often, make it an "at home" date. A picnic in the living room or a complete night snuggled in bed might be the perfect thing for you.

Finally, when you're both bored and have no idea what to do, get up, light a few candles, break out any old board or card games, order a pizza and play. Even if you don't play for very long, it's still a perfect way to provide a little one-on-one time. Remember the words of Henry Van Dyke, "Time is... too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice; but for those who love, time is eternity."

Love Rocks

Love RocksMaking your partner feel loved is usually a high priority for most couples. However, it can get a little redundant writing love notes or sending cards or flowers. Sometimes you just want to express your devotion in a quick, yet unique way. The following idea will help you do just that! In fact, after you've made your quick gift, you'll find some creative romantic ways to give it to your partner as well.

What you'll need:

  • Rocks (find them outside or purchase them from a discount or craft store)
  • Paint Pens or a Permanent Marker like a Sharpie (various colors if you want to get really creative)

Directions:

If you've found your rocks outside, take a few moments to clean them and let them fully dry. Once they are dry use your paint pens to write little messages on them. Or write single words of inspiration such as love, romance, amour, etc. Let the messages dry and use one of the ideas below for presenting the gift to your partner.

Creative Touches:

Make a Scavenger Hunt
Decide on a sentence you want to write. For example, "I will always love you." On each rock write one word of the sentence. Leave the first rock of the sentence where they will find it with a clue to find the next one. Continue with this pattern until they find that last rock. You could have it lead them to a romantic picnic dinner in the backyard or to a romantic rendezvous with you in the bedroom.

Office Paperweight
This presentation is especially great if they've just been promoted or are starting out on a new venture on their own. Write a saying or word that you want to them to see everyday. Wrap it in tissue paper and put it in a box. On top of the rock write a little note saying why you are giving them the gift.

Romantic Room Décor
If you get rocks that match your or your partner's home décor you can make a classy daily reminder of your affection. Choose a sentence you want to write. For example, "You will always have my heart." On each rock write one word of the sentence. Make sure you write them in a place where, when the rocks are set down in order, they can actually read the entire sentence without having to move a rock to view it. When they aren't home lay out your message for them to see.

Love Wishes
For a fun way to stay romantic, use small rocks that can be put in a bowl or jar. On each one write a love wish either partner can grant. Such as, kiss, hug, tickle, talk, date, romance, share, whisper, dream, etc. Each word should stand for an action you each agree to complete. For example, if your partner pulled out the kiss rock you'd both share a kiss. If one of you pulled out the talk rock, you would both share a few minutes talking about your day.

Write A Love Poem

Write A Love PoemThe underlying basis of a love poem is to convey your amorous feelings towards another person. In this light, there is no wrong or right way to write a poem. If you keep this in mind, you'll find writing your poem will be a more enjoyable experience overall.

To begin with you'll need to note down the following:

  • Reasons why you love your partner

  • Specific physical qualities you love about your partner. For instance, their deep, blue eyes.

  • What they have provided for you. Example: Your constant support and encouragement has given me the wings to fly.

  • Any special words you call each other.

  • What specific message you are ultimately trying to convey with your poem. For example, my life would be nothing without you, thank you for being in my life, etc.

  • Tone of your poem. For instance, humorous, sentimental, etc.

You will also need access to a thesaurus, dictionary and a rhyming dictionary if you want your poem to rhyme. You can find these tools online at the following links:
Dictionary.com
Thesaurus.com
RhymeZone.com

Now that you have the data and ideas you need, you can begin structuring your poem. If you're a novice poet, start first with a rhyming poem. By now you should have some lines already written out. Put them in an order that flows and then fill in the rest with sentences that rhyme.

When you're done, read the poem aloud. You will most likely find a few spots that don't flow properly. Make your changes and read the poem aloud again. Continue doing this until the poem is easily read. Remember, a poem is a personal gift from the heart. As long as you are conveying an overall thought or idea it will be received with much pleasure.

    Enhance your love poem!
  • Write it in calligraphy.
  • Use romantic stationary.
  • Spray it with your perfume or cologne.
  • Put it in a love card.
  • Leave it on your love's pillow with a rose.

28 Creative Love Letter Ideas

1. Audio Love Letter
My boyfriend and I are about to be separated again for school. What I did to help us cope with the distance (and the long drives) was find a lot of songs that either expressed my feelings for him, or had special meaning for us (like songs we had laughed about or did karaoke together, etc.). I wrote a "letter" on the CD with all the titles snuck in like "soon I'll be CALLING YOU again to tell you I love you." I made another copy of the CD for myself, and he's wrote a letter on it for me, too. As soon as he saw it he started to choke up!! It was such a great moment and just listening to it makes me feel close to him. I hope it works for you, too!

2. Message In A Bottle
When you're in a long distance relationship, all you can rely on is letters, cards, emails, and telephone calls. But my boyfriend came up with a creative way to send me a letter. I got a package from him one day and I found a bottle with a letter inside! It was really cute and melted my heart! Who isn't charmed by received a message in a bottle!

3. Dated...
This is not so much an idea, but something that I did for my love. I never believed in love at first sight until I met Micheal. It wasn't quite love at first sight, but following our first date, there were feelings inside me that went far beyond expression. I didn't want to say something that I may regret later, or more likely, something that would scare him away, but I had to let it out or I would simply explode. I sat down and wrote him a letter telling him of my feelings for him. I told him that I thought I was falling in love with him and that I thought he was absolutely wonderful. I put it in an envelope and mailed it to my own home, but with his name on the envelope. It was only a couple weeks later when he expressed that he felt the same feelings about me, and so I pulled the letter out of my drawer and handed it to him. Noticing the post-marked date, he read the letter with complete astonishment, and was totally charmed to know that I had fallen in love with him on our very first date.

4. Secret Admirer
I find that the most romantic gestures take a little time to do. Write a glorious infatuation letter, even better type it to conceal your handwriting. Try to make sure there are no tips to give you away, but put hints in it that would make her think it might be somebody else she knows. Use things you might know about her job, or places she might go, but things other people can also know. You might even scare her by telling her you followed her home. Sign it Your Secret Admirer, and send it to her by mail. Send flowers anonymously. Candy, Poetry, whatever you can think of. I set this up for a month, and when I let on who her secret admirer was, I never felt so gratified. It made her feel good that she thought she was still desirable, and when she found out it was me it made it all the better.

5. A letter hunt
My boyfriend told me that he would leave me a love note on my computer for when I got home. Well, he did just that and more. He sent me running around the house finding these little "clues" to where the real love letter was. After running up and down the stairs, finding clues in the cookie jar, ice cream container, under my pillow, in the bathroom, on the tv, and so on-he led me to the wine cellar in the basement where there sat a dozen roses with yet another "clue" as to where my love letter was. He had taped it to the back of the teddy bear he gave me for x-mas. It was the sweetest thing in the world even though I felt silly running through the house like I did.

6. A Single Rose Love Letter
Who says that flowers are only for girls? Guys love them too. I bought a beautiful rose for my boyfriend and plucked almost all of the petals off of it. Attached to each petal, I wrote one sentence on a small piece of paper (rolled up) telling him how much he means to me. I placed the petals face up so he couldn't see the messages. When he opened the box, he saw the left over plucked rose, a small note explaining what's behind each petal, and the petals underneath. I can honestly say that the reciever will cherish that gift forever. :o) My boyfriend did, and right after he confessed his love for me. To this day, he still takes out the dried rose petals to read each note that explains how much I admire and love him.

7. Say it with their name
Send your partner roses according to how many letters there name has. For example: "manny". You would buy 5 red roses and with each rose you would write a message starting with the first letter of their name. For example M: My love. You will never imagine how much I love you. Then for the second rose you would write: All that I ever have wanted is you and only you. then you would finish until you get to the letter Y. Before writing the note you must underline the first letter of every message. It will spell out his /her name. Then leave it where he/she will see it or just have it sent.

8. Floating love letter
Save the next empty wine bottle, the next time you surprise your partner with that bubble bath, write a love letter and stick it in the bottle, cork it and float it in the bath water : )
by Anonymous

9. Love Notes
I love leaving little love notes around the house, but you want to make sure that you leave them where your love one will find them. Two ways this can be done.
(1) buy magnetic letters (bookstores sell) and place them on the refig., they are bound to go there sooner or later.
(2) use a soap bar and write your romantic message on the bathroom mirror. It won't do damage to mirror and is easy to get off with a little water.

10. Say it in a BIG way!
The other day I made a large envelope and a large note that said, "I love you in the biggest way!" I even went out on the Internet to download pictures of stamps and blew them up in size. Then I had the apartments where she lives call her to the office to pick up an "important" letter...

11. Book of Love
This is something I did for my boyfriend, and he loved it! I thought of My ten favorite things about him, then wrote a letter about each one and how much it meant to me. I put all the letters (after I'd spent tons of time perfecting and decorating them) together into a little book, and give it to him for our anniversary. Big success!!

12. Letter a day...
If your loved one is going away for vacation or a short trip, take a pink colored notepad and for each day that he's gone write a separate love letter, so that he can read one everyday and be close to you. (I tried it-- and it worked better than I thought!)

13. Love Letter Ideas
I like to send my boyfriend a letter (snail mail) every week. However, I want every letter to be as new and exciting as for him as the first, so I try to be creative. Some ideas:
- send a letter in a bottle (be extra careful with the packaging so it won't break)
-write a letter on the back of a 100 piece jigsaw puzzle, then take it apart and let them put it together
-instead of sending a written letter, send a video cassette of yourself telling everything you want your special person to know.

14. Love Letter Ideas
I've found that one way to easily make an ordinary letter or package more special for somebody, is to decorate the package or envelope that you're sending. When one of my loves sent me a teddy bear, she lined the inside of the box with gift wrapping paper, and I still cherish that box to this day. If you've got a letter you wanna decorate, and you're not a good artist, then get some stickers. Too many of us forget about stickers after about grade school, but you can attach a cute or lovable sticker to anything at all, and whatever it touches will become special. A lot of restaurants and stores will have sticker dispensers that have those shiny, metallic stickers, they are superb. But don't just get the envelope, hit the letter itself, and be sure to perfume those pages. Perfumed pages are incredibly sensual. A good way to accomplish this is to put perfume on your wrist before you start writing. As your wrist moves across the paper, it'll be scented. Yet another thing you can do to make a letter more romantic is to write something on the flap, so the first thing your love sees when they open the envelope is an, "I love you" or something else. Before they even begin reading, they'll already be smitten with love.

15. In A Different Language
Write your loved one a long, romantic, handwritten letter in a different language (friends come awfully handy if you don't know that much). Give it to him/her with something you treasure (in my case, he gave me his lucky pen). They'll have a memorable time getting the letter translated, and they'll be inspired to do the same. *smile*

16. Laundry Surprise
If your loved one does your laundry, write a love letter and leave it in a pocket. On laundry day he/she will find it while checking for forget me's. Make sure to write his/her name on it so he/she will read it, not just toss it in the waste.

18. A Simple Letter of Love
A simple letter to show them how you feel usually makes them smile. My boyfriend and I are in high school and we were kind of fighting. Well, one day I went all day without seeing him at all. When school got out he was waiting for me by the doors and he handed me a letter and told me to open it. I opened it and all the way down the paper it said, "I love you." Then at the very bottom it said, "Hope this makes up for the times when I didn't say I love you or it didn't seem like I did. I'll always love you a million times more than what you think." I looked up and he kissed me right in front of his friends and sister. It was so sweet! See what a simple letter can do to make things better?

22. A Ransom Note
Champagne, games, and roses are nice but can get very boring after a while. Instead, get creative and do something off the wall. My girlfriend has this stuffed animal that she adores and keeps on her bed. So I decided to kidnap the stuffed animal making a ransom note from cutting letters out of the news paper. In the letter it said " give me a McDonalds cheeseburger and a six pack of beer or your stuffed pig is pork." Then I took a picture of it on a plate with an apple by it and a fork and knife by the edge of the plate. I then placed the ransom letter and picture on her door. Of course when she saw it she new it was me but we had a fun time with it. She would make playful and sarcastic comments and of course I played back. Needless to say I gave the stuffed animal back making myself look like the hero and she rewarded me with a nite of love. However, your mate must have a good sense of hummor or you might spend the nite on the couch.

23. Candy Bar Card
For my boyfriend's birthday, I got a big poster board and I wrote him a letter using candy bars. It said things like you're better than the Three Musketeers, and meet me at 5th Avenue so I can see your Whatchamacalit. Then at the end I put little hugs and kisses. He absolutely loved it and still has it.

25. Butterflies
I was getting ready to go out with an old girlfriend I had not seen in five years. I was waiting for her to show up at my apartment and was very nervous. When she arrived I couldn't believe how beautiful she was, more than I had remembered. She looked wonderful. Anyway we had a spectacular evening of dinner and dancing. After she left that evening I couldn't stop thinking about her so I decided send her a letter the following week. The letter had small stickers of butterflies I had placed all over it with a message that read "These are the butterflies you gave me last Friday when I heard you walking up the steps to my apartment. I thought you might like them back." She absolutely loved it!!

26. An Overlooked I Love You
Once, when my boyfriend and I were having a rough time on a special day, I cut out nine small paper hearts, wrote one letter of "I LOVE YOU!" on each, and colored them pink and red. I put the hearts in an envelope with a sheet of paper. On the paper I had made outlines of the hearts (from when I colored them) with nine overlooked reasons why I love him, one in each.

27. Message In A Bottle
For our one year anniversary, I wanted to do something special for my boyfriend, but I wasn't sure what to do. Then, while shopping at a craft store, I came upon a beautiful, blue bottle with a cork. Inspired by the recent movie, "Message in a Bottle", I wrote my boyfriend a three page letter reviewing the past year, and expressing my everlasting love for him. Then I tied the letter with a ribbon, put it in the bottle, put the cork in tightly, and then dated it. When I give it to him, he won't be allowed to open it...he will have to wait until the following year. A year later, as he opens the bottle from the previous year, he will be presented with another message in a bottle. Hopefully, we will be together long enough so that he will eventually have many, many bottles!! :)

28. Being There For Your Love!
Write your love a love letter using kiddie stickers that say things like "terrific" or "top notch" or the like. It's a colorful way to spice up an ordinary love letter and will be sure to make his/her day that you put in the extra time.
